the jquery js lib packages under Ubuntu 10.04 are libjs-jquery 1.3.3-2ubuntu1, libjs-jquery-ui 1.7.2-1,libjs-jquery-ui-docs 1.7.2-1
I checked on my local machine running Ubuntu 12.04. Here libjs-jquery is in version 1.7.1-1
As I installed Dolibarr on a virtual server of a service provider there is not much what I can do about the versions of Ubuntu/jquery which are installed on the server.
However if they might be to old I would propose that either the version of the libraries could be defined as one of the dependencies of the .deb file or that there is a remark put in the documentation/wiki about possible limitations of the functionality under Ubuntu/Debian based distributions older than (?).
In any case, even as it is now, Dolibarr is still a nice piece of software and fits the needs of the friend for whom I install it quite well. Easy enough to work with as a normal user but enough functionalities to fulfil the needs. So JavaScipt and Ajax functionalities are in this case nice but not necessary.
