I do not have a server and I want to run this software as a stand alone desktop application. I cannot find any simple instructions on installing this. Would someone please use screen shots and describe how to make this install work. I am using Ubuntu 16.04 as my operating system. I have downloaded the software and on the setup screen it is entirely confusing. Thanks a lot to the person who will help me. This is the second time I have asked for help with this. Do I have to pay for this install information ? Is that the reason no one will help?
First: Use only Ubuntu 14.04 for the time being. 16.04 doesn’t play well with Dolibarr because of PHP 7.0
Second: Use instructions below for LAMP Install on Ubuntu
Once done with above, come back again. Than we should tackle the Dolibar install.
Best regards
OK I have the Ubuntu 14.04 installed and the LAMP installed on my desktop. Everything appears to be working fine. I really appreciate you helping me.
Thank you very much for the reply but with all this guys problems and your answers to him it leads to a lot of confusion on my end. What I am needing is a simple explanation on how to install the dolibarr on my desktop. I did not see any instructions within the link you posted as far as a clean install in my instance. My dolibarr program is copied to my desktop but the setup page as far as server etc is confusing as to what I type in the setup boxes. I hate to be a lot of trouble but keep in mind I’m new to Ubuntu since I’m trying to get away from windows and a lot of this is just not clear yet to me.
Pardon me - but this forum is on Dolibarr NOT on “How to get experienced with Linux, LAMP etc.”
You are best advised to look for a Linux course within your community and/or your public education system first.
Otherwise the amount of time to “talk” you thru the setup is unlimited …
Sorry of not being able of further help here.
Best regards
Thank you for reminding me that I am ignorant of the Linux system. Yes I agree that I’m new to the Ubuntu system and don’t know a lot about it. Im to old to try to learn a new system. That’s why there are people around to help others get started. And I see here that you are no teacher.
As with Windows based software there are software designers that set up programs to load and work well with out all the sudo commands. They are smart enough to include this in the code unlike the Dolibarr folks who design programs. I will stay with Windows until someone that is smart enough to write a Linux program re writes the Dolibarr software where a just a plain old guy can install it. At the present I have found a comparable program open source of course for Windows named OPEN MIRACLE. It installs well and runs well. So I’'ll stick with it and Quickbooks until someone smarter than some wriites a good program for old people.
Thanks for the very little help you provided. If you are a Dolibarr representative I feel they should find someone else to represent their software because you have failed this course.
Normally I won’t reply to such a rant - but I’ll try to explain it for you:
- Dolibarr is Open Source and mainted by a community of developers and users
- Open Source ist NOT equal to a Commercial or Packaged Product
- There is professional support available to get you going - albeit you might have to pay for it
- You should at least be experienced with the OS you are using to run Dolibar on it
- Support given in forums (like here) is for free - but could not replace support of an experienced Dolibarr Partner/Developer
Best regards
PS: I’m neither an employee nor partner of Dolibarr. Only a user like you.
