How to use purchase order

Dear community
Can someone please help me explain how I’m supposed to use purchase orders?
Ref this post Trouble using purchase order and warehouse
I’m unable to get the behaviour I’m seeking i.e.

  • Create a purchase order and receive the items into my warehouse with the correct stock amount.

Perhaps if there’s a guide somewhere to follow, then I could figure out what I’m doing wrong.

okay, I now got a little closer - and please have patience, I’m completely new to this.
I found out that under the stock module setup I had enabled both
Increase real stocks on purchase order approval
and
Increase real stocks on manual dispatching into warehouse, after purchase order receipt of goods

I’ve now changed that setting so that I only have
Increase real stocks on manual dispatching into warehouse, after purchase order receipt of goods

Now when I’m receiving a purchase order the physical quantity is correct, but the virtual stock amount is not decreased.
Any help on this matter is much appreciated.
