InstallationsMAMP Dolibarr and Dolibarr for Ubuntu

Hello, bonjour and hallo to the community,

after a long and intense search I found Dolibarr, and I think I like it, at least the online demo is impressive. I am a Mac and Ubuntu user, and finding a small business system that works on both platforms is a rare thing. I will either use it on Mac or Ubuntu, I’m not sure yet.

First of all I downloaded and installed the MAMP 2.7.0 version. It runs.

But what do I do now? There is a little window telling me that Apache and MySql work.

There is a little Readme file telling me to “copy my HTML and PHP files in the htdocs folder”. What files? Where do I get them? In the wiki “Installation / Upgrade” chapter there is no word about the Mac version. The htdocs folder is empty. I guess this is just a minor thing until I find the files that are required.

My other computer runs Ubuntu 10.10. I tried to install Dolibarr 2.9.0 for Ubuntu using the download package. It’s a pretty quick download, just 8.8 MB. Then I double-clicked the downloaded file, the Ubuntu software center opens up and tells me that the file cannot be opened.
Next try, using the Terminal. “sudo dpkg -i dolibarr.2.9.0.deb” should do the trick. But it doesn’t. I get an error message immediately, telling me that either the file was not found or an unknown error occured

I guess, Ubuntu 10.10 might be the problem; it was released in October 2010. The Dolibarr for Ubuntu installer shows “Date added: 08/05/2010”.

So, what I am doing wrong on both operating systems? How do I deserve this?

And what does “Dolibarr” actually mean?

For Ubuntu 10.10, you must wait version 3.0 of Dolibarr. Dolibarr 2.9 works only on Ubuntu 9.10 and lower. (this is due to a regression in Ubuntu).

Thanks, in that case I will start with the Mac version. But I don’t know how.
