Is anybody using the vacation module? It looks so unfinished

I recently started using the vacation module. It is more than 10 years old. Yet some of the default public holidays have a day/month confusion and put labor day on the 5th of Jan. Granted holidays are not linked to calendar years? Is this unique to Germany, that contracts specify annual leave? If I grant PTO mid year, so employees can schedule next years PTO, they can use it immediately. Also I guess this will make accounting/audition difficult.

Please tell me I somehow have caught an outdated module or am using it wrong.

Hi @svewa

If you don’t mind, will you let me know where you got this module, please?

start→settings under PM/HR.

@svewa Are you talking about the “holiday” module?

possibly, was too lazy to look up the name, thought the description made it clear. sorry for causing confusion.

So as you seem to be interested in a “vacation” module, i take you are not satisfied with the holiday module?

@svewa

I understood what you were trying to say. However, since there are many Dolibarr developers who regularly create custom modules and distribute them, both free and paid, through Dolistore and other platforms, and since module names can sometimes be very similar, I thought you might have purchased a new module or obtained it from another source.

I am a Dolibarr developer myself. I don’t actively use the HRM or Holiday module, but I did work on this module in the past. I made many modifications to it, most likely when it was running on Dolibarr v3.5/v4 up to v8. Since then, I’ve only made small changes for newer versions, such as Dolibarr v18 and above, with most of the work now done through a custom module.

thanks for the insight. So do you know of any modules that improve the holiday module regarding the pain points i mentioned?

I see that one needs more functionality than what the basic module is offering, i’m also considering to a) improve it to b) move to the other solution i had before, which handles this way better. lets see….

@svewa Sorry, I have no module in knowledge which will work as you expecting but if you are a developer, you can develop a custom module to fulfill your need.

or even better: fix the one that’s already there

@svewa Yes, you can do that, but I will suggest not modify the core code; always try to do by a custom module.

Hello
I’m the developer of the moreHoliday module, which improves upon the native leave management module.
If I understand your problem correctly, your date format is American (it places the month before the day; 911 corresponds to September 11th, for example).

nah, that’s merely a side-rant about the module quality, with even default data being plainly wrong (or I’m doing stuff wrong, who knows. Also sort of the object here to figure that out)

Of course other modules, like yours, might the the solution. The main feature I’m missing is PTO entitlements that are connected to calendar years. My employee gets 25 days off per year. So when to I assign the days to them, so that they can only take it in the year they are valid for, but still allows the employee to plan reasonably ahead - in moreHoliday or Holiday?
